Privacy & child safety notice
Version 2026-11-draft-8 · published 4 November 2026
DRAFT for review. This notice describes how the Study Hall app works today. It has not yet been reviewed by Study Hall's owners or a legal adviser, and it must be replaced by reviewed text before launch.
Who we are
Study Hall is run by Feifan Wu, a sole trader, and offers supervised online study sessions for school students in Victoria, Australia. Contact us at feifanwork1@gmail.com with questions, concerns or privacy requests.
What we collect
- About you (the parent): your name, email address, the consents you give, and optionally how you heard about us.
- About your child: first name, last initial, year level, school if you choose, the subjects they take and any they'd like help with, an optional short note on current schoolwork (up to 200 characters), and the email address they use to log in. Please keep the note to schoolwork: no health or personal information.
- About each session: when your child joined and left, the tasks they planned and how they marked them (with any result or note they add), any photos or PDFs of their work they choose to upload, short factual check-in notes from the supervisor (for example "Phone visible once during the session"), help requests, and messages between your child and the supervisor.
- Uploaded work is optional. It's stored privately and can only be opened by your child, you, the staff of that session and Study Hall administrators. Study Hall doesn't mark it.
- Billing: Stripe processes payments. We store your Stripe customer and subscription IDs and the plan you chose, not your card details.
- When you agree to the house rules or this notice, we record the version, the time, and a one-way hash of your IP address.
What we don't collect
- Study Hall doesn't capture, record or store video, images or audio.
- We don't ask for your child's date of birth, photo, address or phone number.
- We don't use advertising or third-party tracking on student pages.
The video room
Sessions run on Zoom or Google Meet. A supervisor is present in the live room. Recording is turned off in Study Hall's Zoom rooms, and Study Hall doesn't record sessions. The video provider processes the call under its own privacy terms.
Who can see what
- You can see your own children's details, attendance, goals and reports.
- A supervisor or tutor can see the roster, subjects, current-work notes, session plans, uploaded work and help requests for the sessions they're assigned to, so they can prepare and check in. On the tutoring plan, your child's help requests are shown to the tutor first.
- Study Hall administrators can see everything, including all messages between supervisors and students. Supervisors can't delete messages.
- Students can't see other students' information, and there is no student-to-student messaging.
Where it's stored
Our database is hosted by Supabase in Sydney, Australia. The website is hosted by Vercel, with server code running in Sydney. Sign-in and account emails are sent through Supabase, our login provider. Payments are processed by Stripe. The video room runs on Zoom or Google Meet.
Keeping and deleting data
When your subscription ends, we keep your family's data for 7 days (in case you resubscribe), then delete it automatically: your account, your children's accounts and details, their session plans, attendance, reports, messages and uploaded work. Stripe keeps its own payment records, as the law requires.
You can also ask us to delete your child's data at any time by emailing feifanwork1@gmail.com, and we'll do it within 30 days.
Child safety
- Every supervisor must hold a Working with Children Check that we have verified.
- An adult is never alone on video with a student. Help happens by text in the app, or in a breakout room with at least two students or a second adult. One-to-one tutoring (Study + Tutoring plan) happens in the main session room, with the supervisor and other students present.
- To raise a child-safety concern, email feifanwork1@gmail.com. The Study Hall team reviews every concern and responds as soon as possible. If a child is in immediate danger, call 000.
